“The book brings clarity to issues which before seemed like mysteries: what professional orchestras are expecting, what the competition may be like, and how one ought to adjust one's playing and practicing styles to prepare for an audition. The book is filled with practical advice which everyone taking an audition would benefit greatly from reading. Many of the concepts are also applicable to anyone who performs music or teaches the performance of music.

    KAIROS PUBLICATIONS IS
    PROUD TO OFFER:
    "THE ORCHESTRA AUDITION
    HOW TO PREPARE "

As Associate Concertmaster with the Minnesota Orchestra, I have developed somewhat of a niche over the years, specializing in coaching musicians for positions in Symphony Orchestras. I have helped musicians earn positions in all levels of the profession, from the largest major orchestras to community orchestras. The players all come with different goals, but the process of preparing for the “big day” is pretty much the same. This book was purposely written to apply to ALL INSTRUMENTS OF THE ORCHESTRA– when it comes to this process, we really have more in common than you may think. It has been at the urging of both my students and my colleagues at Kairos Publications, that I have finally decided to combine the information I have been teaching in my coaching sessions and seminars for years, and lay it out in a logical and step-by-step written form. The result is a book with answers to the most common questions concerning the audition process for the Symphony Orchestras of today!

    <![CDATA[How to repair a broken bass scroll]]> http://forum.bassbar.com/aeforum/index.php?tid=38&tpg=1#p52
  • Carefully examine the surface and make sure it fits together.
  • Clean both sides with acetone and let it dry.
  • Remove nut.
  • Find a way to clamp the broken pieces without glue.
  • Prepare epoxy glue according to the product's instructions. I suggest using “5 min epoxy” and test the glue to make sure it sets properly.
  • Apply a small amount of glue on both sides and clamp the broken pieces together.
  • Drill 2 holes as shown on the picture with out going through and thread them. (a special long type of screw threader might be needed).
  • Make special screws from threaded rod and try to insert them with a screwdriver. They must go in very easily and hide just below nut.
  • Take them out, apply a small amount of epoxy glue inside the holes and on the thread of the screws, and screw them back in.
  • Clean and glue back the nut.
  • This method does NOT guaranty 100% success but it has worked for me most of the time.
